I am just learning of Mr. Paul’s passing. He was a legend in my book. He was my scoutmaster in Las Vegas. Paul was the closest thing to an angel. He made sure we went to Philmont Scout Ranch and even after serving in our nation’s armed forces, Philmont is one of the greatest highlights of my life. He’s the reason I joined the military and still involved in scouting. He was my hero. He kept us out of trouble in the inner city of “sin city.” We would go to his home and have sleep overs and he would share stories about piloting in the USMC and his tours in Vietnam. He treated us more like sons rather than scouts. He is missed already. Rest well my friend.

I pay tribute to a common man from a small upstate town who through his service to his country, to young boys in need of mentoring, to others, to community brings a new and fresh and powerful meaning to the words "great man!" He carried himself through life with dignity, integrity and character and set a standard such that he is a role model for all. I pay tribute and respects to Paul with great friendship and love.

Paul and I reconnected on Facebook, some 50 years after SCHS graduation, as we shared our love of dogs. Such a kind and gentle soul he was and he really made a difference in many peoples' lives. I'm sure he was met at the Rainbow Bridge by his beloved Buddy and that now they are together for Eternity...no more pain.

A long time ago in a very special place Paul and I were friends, classmates and scouts together. Viet Nam sent many of us out into the world but Sidney was always our home. Paul was a true Sidney Warrior on many levels. Sheryl and I send your family our thoughts and prayers. -- Jim Hawkins

I felt honored to have known Paul and work with him on both the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park Association and the Sidney Alumni Association. He had a great passion for both but especially the Veterans Park. I never remember Paul ever saying a harsh word about anyone. He always saw the positive in everyone and everything. He fought a hard battle that finally over took him but he fought to the end with dignity. He will be missed along with his passion for life. Rest in peace Paul.

Paul Beames, more affectionately referred to as "Beamer," was the most kind hearted, generous and giving human being I have ever had the good fortune of knowing. Paul impacted and changed the lives of countless young men through The Boy Scouts of America as well as the other out reach programs he believed in. I am blessed to be among those fortunate souls that have been touched by this man. My life, and that of my two sons as well, would not be the same had I not been mentored by Paul.
He was the boy scout leader of troop 34 when I was young. With his guidance, I earned my Eagle Scout. An accomplishment I am proud of still today. However, it wasn't until after my younger son earned his Eagle Scout that I realized how influential Paul had been in that event as well. (some 30 years later) It was after this that I started to reconnect with Beamer. We have been exchanging emails and I have visited when I get back "home."
Just another example of his never ending generosity: In the mid 80s, after High School and my airplane mechanic schooling, I left Sidney to embark on a career in aviation. My first job was to be in Manassas, VA, a suburb of Washington D.C. Paul had also left Sidney to re-enter the Marines in the Washington area. And wouldn't you know, as fate and coincidence would have it, Paul was there and able to take me in when I needed a place to stay and get my feet on the ground so to speak. Of course, he had a Boy Scout troop in the area, doing what he does.
I'll bet my story is but one of thousands that exemplify this exceptional man's unselfish dedication and spirit to extend a hand, when you can.
Its really just that simple isn't it. If you can.... Help other people. He most certainly did that. Paul will be sorely missed in this world.
