Marion Cardoza, 78 of Sidney, died peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Binghamton.
Marion was born March 31, 1940 in White Plains, NY; the second child of the late Joseph John Rabasco and Elizabeth Josephine Mosteller.
She married Robert A. Cardoza August 3, 1957, He predeceased her on January 22, 2003.
Marion was destined to be an antique dealer. As a young girl, she was drawn to the "old things" in the window displays of an antique store, which she passed on her way to school. Years later, having received an antique vessel as a gift, she began learning with passion and enthusiasm from antique dealers. She read antique magazines and books, eventually becoming an authority, especially in the field of Victorian era furniture, glassware, and jewelry.
She began selling at craft fairs, church fairs, and from her home. She opened her first business in Shrub Oak, N Y in 1975. She enjoyed attending antique auctions, and being exceptionally good at "wheeling and dealing", was able to sell her purchases right off her van. She was known as "The Lady Marion", in her circle of close antique friends.
They moved to Sidney in 2002 and ran an antique business for several years, on Cartwright Avenue.
Marion was a true believer in the word of God, and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church on Liberty Street in Sidney.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. (Marion) Cardoza, two grandsons, and 3 great granddaughters of Houston, TX; a sister, Elizabeth Rabasco of Sun City, AZ; and a nephew David Appleby of Phoenix, AZ.
Marion was also predeceased by two brothers, and one sister.
She will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Church 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Fr. Bernard Osei Ampong will officiate.
