Alvin L. Stewart, 81, of 197 Lockwood Hill Road, Mt. Upton, passed away early Thursday morning, June 28, 2018 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Al was born on June 9, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa, son of the late Elmer Johnson Stewart and Hazel Marie (Kenoyer) Stewart.
He served his country for 2 years in the National Guard before joining the Navy for a four year term. Following his honorable discharge, Alvin was married to Margery Kaye Bouren on July 25, 1959 at the Hamden Presbyterian Church. Together, they shared nearly 59 years of marriage.
He was a jack of all trades, working a variety of jobs over his life; he was a licensed minister, and retired as a technician for Suburban Gas in Sidney.
Alvin was a lifetime member of the National Heritage Foundation participating in Civil War Reenactments, beginning as a chaplain and eventually portraying General Grant. He also enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and trees.
Alvin will be missed by: his loving wife, Margery Kaye Stewart; two daughters: Cherice Ranae DuMond and Trinette Kaye Stewart; three grandsons, their wives and his 5 great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye: Jeremiah A. DuMond and his wife, Ariane and their daughter, Alexis; Joshua P. DuMond and his wife, Samantha and their children Blake, Genevieve and Camden; and Jason M. DuMond and his wife, Tina and their son, Xavier. Alvin is also survived by his siblings: Leonard Stewart, Elmer Stewart, Jr., Alice Brown and her husband, Ed, Kathy Fuller and Ernest Stewart as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and father, Alvin was predeceased by his sister, Shirley, and two brothers, Joe and Harold.
