I really don’t know what to say. Mrs. Cornell has played a major roll in my life’s journey. I met Mrs Cornell in 1986 or 87 at camp brace. I was a very trouble young man which landed me in camp brace. Mrs. Cornell is truly responsible planting the seed for me to explore my trauma and overcome it. I’ve always walked through life looking for a “Mrs. Cornell” she helped me to understand what overcoming your obstacles could be. Now my life has consisted of many ups and downs, twist and turns, but in every step I looked to heal a little part of me each time. Man! What I would do to just stand in your presence to have to see what I’ve become. The man I am today. Thank you showing me the path of possibility. Love Michael Smith

Tarel Perkins posted a condolence

My condolences goes out to all family and friends. My name is Tarel. I was one of the troubled kids in brace residential back in 1999-2000. For years I always tried to search for Ms. Cornell trying to just reach out to her and say thank you. Sometimes I always had felt a need to hear her speak to me again. She always knew what to say and most importantly Ms. Cornell understood me. She knew my flaws and she always knew there was a part of me that was damaged but yet she never stopped believing in me. I recently just saw this post after trying to find her again and I read she had passed away. It broke my heart. I always wanted to make her proud and let her meet my kids. I knew she would be proud of me. She'd probably tell me " You're doing a great job kid". It's hard to explain all of this. You'd just have to be that kid. O.C.F.S was a lonely place for a 13 year old kid but Ms. Cornell had a way of making everyone feel important. I was a hopeless kid. And she always believed in me. For me when I was at brace that was my family. I never been treated so good until I went to brace. It was there that taught me right from wrong. I wrote my first speech there when getting into trouble Mr. Wynn made me write a story about following rules and then I had to speak out in front of all the staff and residents. Those were the days. Boy oh boy. Mr. Hal Hingos, Mr. Sam Caretell, Mr. Brink, Mr. Kuhn, Ivan Cruz, Mr. Dunston, My mentor Birch, Mr. Hoffman, Mr. Delarose, Mr. Wynn, and Ms. Hazel. I can never forget. I was that boy. Thank you!!!!! Ms.Cornell if you can see this I want you to know I haven't stopped trying. I'm still pushing..... My kids are amazing. I have a 11 year old boy and 13 yearld girl. They are better than me when I was that age. I kept them out the streets. When I waa 13 I was in jail, when I look at my daughter who is 13cI say to myself How did i get into trouble so early in age. You helped me find that answer. You didn't always think it was our faults. You believed parents needed to play majot roles in their kids lives. Ms. Cornell I raise them like you would have wanted me too. May god bless your spirit. I pray for you. No matter what anyone say you was always my perfect parent. You gave me hope when no on couldn't. When I didn't think there was anyway you helped me see that there was. You helped me to believe in myself when I didn't. I love you always Mother Cornell. And I'm so sorry I didnt try harder to thank you. Thank you so much. And may god bless your family. I will never forget what you told me. Your wisdom is instilled in my heart forever.

Mr. Perkins, You absolutely just made my day. I have not looked at this page in a while but as we approach the second year since my mother's passing it gave me joy to read your amazing tribute. Your message just gave me a shot of hope when no one else could. As my mother would have told both of us, stay on course, never give up, and always give the best you have in you today. God Bless. Dan Cornell

I have many fond memories of Eileen at Camp Brace. Working with her for 19 years helped me grow both professionally and as a person. She touched the lives of countless kids and staff, and will always be remembered for her caring heart and wise counsel. On a more personal note, Eileen truly set the standard for unconditional friendship. She always strived to be a better person, and in turn made the world a better place. She believed in people, and had a unique way of making them believe in themselves. Our loss is Heavens gain. We pray that her light will continue to shine in the hearts of the family she loved so much. They are truly her greatest accomplishment as they reflect her kindness and great spirit. The fruit never falls far from the tree. May God's peace be with you all.

Please know all of you are in my thoughts during this most difficult time. I have many fond memories of your mom, as well as, of all of you during our days together on Seneca Street. Words and expressions of sympathy cannot fully ease the pain of the loss of someone so special as your mother; however, I hope the memories you have, help to provide you with peace and comfort in the days ahead.

We are so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was ONE of the BEST!! We first met when she came to teach at Sidney Schools and a friendship developed that lasted thru the years. I remember the day she came for her interview at Camp Brace and her phone call to me prior to her arrival. She was a blessing to all who knew her and she has left her mark on all of us. No one can ever fill the shoes she wore over the years. Our sincerest sympathy to you all, I know how much her family meant to her. Thank you for sharing her with all of us over the years.

To Dan and Family,
Eileen was my favorite visitor here at the Yawkey Wildlife Center and I will always remember her great love and enthusiasm she shared on each of her visits here. I host thousands of visitors each year, but she stood out among all the others because I could see in her eyes the same wonder I find in this magical place. I had never been aware of her professional life but was not surprised to hear of her care and compassion that she shared with so many people in the community, especially with the children! I am certain that she will be missed by many, but the love and light that she shared has illuminated the lives of many (including me) and that can never be diminished. My hope is that all the family and friends of Eileen will be able to visit this little piece of heaven and allow me to share with them a little of what she found to be so wonderful in life.
May the peace and comfort that is our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with you all,
Jim Lee

To dear Eileen and her wonderful family,
We were all blessed and made better people by knowing and loving your Mom. She was a very special lady who brought joy and caring to all of her any friends.
We met Eileen in Myrtle Beach as snowbirds from Bainbridge staying at South Wind on the ocean. We had many grand and exciting adventures initiated by Eileen including trips to Yawkey Wildlife Preserve, The Culinery School , museums and Brook Green Gardens to name a few. We always looked forward to her St Pat’s Party which was an all out production!
We had many laughs and many absolutely fun times.
We love Eileen and will miss her bright spirit in our lives. We send our deepest sympathy and love to you all.

Dan, Deidre & Kahlen,
I was so sorry to hear that Eileen had passed away. It was my pleasure to meet Eileen recently and come to know her love of life and family through our mutual sporting interests. She made it seem as if we had been friends for years. I, for one, will truly miss her laugh and stories while watching our granddaughters play softball. It goes without saying, that she was one "special" lady.
My condolences go out to you and the rest of your family.
