Obituary of Mark K. Watkins

Mark K. Watkins Sidney, NY Mark K. Watkins, 69, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 26 with his loving wife Terry and his beloved golden retriever Max at his side. The cause of death was kidney failure. Mark was born on September 9, 1948 at The Hospital in Sidney, NY. He grew up in Unadilla, NY, graduating with the first class of the newly merged Unatego School District in 1966. In 1970 he graduated from Clarkson University with a degree in Industrial Distribution. In 1985 he earned a Master's Degree in Advanced Technology from Binghamton University. He met his wife Terry during his junior year in college and they were married at the Newman Center in Potsdam, NY on February 3, 1970. They returned to Sidney where they have lived since November, 1970. For most of his career Mark worked at the Borden Elmer's Glue manufacturing plant in Bainbridge, NY, first as Plant Engineer and later as Plant Manager until the facility was closed. He then worked as the Plant Manager at Lander, Inc. in Binghamton, NY until his retirement in 2008. Mark was an avid golfer, playing many years in the Pro-Am golf tournament of the original BC Open. He was a longtime member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club. Mark's love of "all creatures great and small" was a abiding aspect of his personality. In retirement he volunteered at the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney, NY. Mark is survived by Terry, his wife of 48 years. He is also survived by his nephew David Hino, his wife Jamie, and their 3 children Will, Jackson, and Natalie in Lancaster NY; his brother-in-law John Hino in Lewiston, NY; his cousin Richelle MacIntosh Leap and her family in Phoenix, Arizona; and several others. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2018. It was Mark's wish "to go quietly into that good night".
