Floyd E. Humphrey Afton, NY
Floyd E. Humphrey, born January 16, 1927 at The Hospital, Sidney, NY, son of the late Ernest A. and Evvia A. (Ballard) Humphrey, passed away on January 22, 2018 at his home in Afton.
Floyd served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II from 1945-1948.
On June 1, 1952, Floyd married Barbara McPherson of Bennettsville at the Methodist Church in Bainbridge. Floyd started as a clerk with the A&P in Sidney and later became Assistant Manager, working 31 years with the company. When A&P closed its doors, he became Manager of Brooks Drug Store in Binghamton & Endwell for 6 ½ years until he retired in 1988. They lived in Bainbridge for 30 years before moving to Afton 1987, where they resided until his death.
Some of Floyd's special interests included gardening, traveling and reading.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara of Afton; a son and three daughters: Mike and Serena Humphrey of Penn Yan, NY, Connie and Dann Moore of Estero, FL, Laurie Humphrey and Jeanne Adler of Miami, FL and Patricia and Richard Howe of Bainbridge; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Elaine Humphrey of El Paso, TX; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Floyd was predeceased by a son, David, and two sisters, Dorothy and Helen.
At his request, there will be no calling hours or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
