Alice I. Wearne
Afton—Alice I. Wearne, 92, formerly of Afton, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Elizabeth Church Manor. She was born on April 17, 1925 daughter of the late Ralph and Grace (Lord) Monahan.
Alice grew up in Bainbridge and graduated from Syracuse University with her teaching degree. She taught at Newark Valley and later Afton Central School, where she taught until her retirement.
On June 21, 1947, she was married to Clifford A. Wearne at the Bainbridge Baptist Church. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage until he predeceased her on March 11, 2016.
Alice was an avid quilter, a member of the Afton Golf Club and a founder of Foster Park.
She is survived by: her son, Jim Wearne; grandchildren, Kiri, Darci and Caleb and nephews, William Monahan and Lawrence Monahan.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Alice was predeceased by her brother, James Monahan and a niece, Pamela LeFever.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service will begin at 6:00pm at the funeral chapel.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in Eastside Cemetery, Afton.
