So sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I was one of his many students at Southold and he left an indelible mark on us all. One of those people you remember the rest of your days. I was in the Class of '71, and part of the Humanities class that created the SHS version of Jesus Christ Superstar. It hadn't been produced on Broadway yet and there was no libretto yet published...Dick gave me and Jim Wacker pretty much a free pass on our senior year to just listen to the albums and transcribe what we heard for all the instruments needed for the production.
It turned out to be one of the seminal events in SHS history.
Jim went on to be a highly successful musician doing world tours with the Chubby Checker band, and is still a professional musician. I used sound in other ways...studying at NYU Medical Center learning ultrasound, and one day treating Dick as one of my echocardiogram patients in the ICU at Peconic Bay Medical Center. We had some great memories to share that evening.
I will certainly miss his wit and humor. We'll all miss him!

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Hilary's passing. As Principal of Southold High School - he touched many of our lives - trying to balance wisdom, compassion and discipline. He did as fine a job as one might given the crazy kids we all were.
I hope your family is able to gain comfort from others' fond memories.
Warmly,
Lynne Albertson

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to the Hilary family. I was fortunate enough to be one of "Mr. Hilary's" many students at Southold High School in the early 70's and then my daughter was fortunate enough to attend "Camp Sea Wolf" in Peconic years later. I was very active in Student Government and have very fond memories of Mr. Hilary, his genuine concern for the students as a whole and for each of us individually as well. I remember his kindness and his unyielding fairness what a gift. Again it is sad for us as the world has lost a good soul! My deepest Sympathy.

Dick and I met on the first day of kindergarten, and have remained friends all these years. I am so grateful to Rosanne for the love and care she gave Dick, and I shall always remember how happy he was on their wedding day. My sympathy to all of Dick's family at this very sad time.
You will remain in my thoughts and memory forever, Dick,
Janice

Please accept our most sincerest condolences. Our prayers are with you and your family. May God grant your family strength an serenity through this difficult moment your family is enduring. God has promised us that we will soon be reunited with our loved one. "There is going to be a resurrection," the Bible confirms at Acts 24:15. "Do not be amazed at this, "Jesus assures as, "for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out"-John 5:28,29

What sad news. In the 80's, Dick Hilary was principal of the Southold Middle School and would call me often to fill in as a Substitute Teacher.
He was a great man and I enjoyed doing the Substitute-thing for him. He called me one morning, hideously early, to come in and sub for Mr. O'Brien's 4th grade class. When I hesitated a little, he told me, "I think you'll really want this today!" They were going on a field trip (still not excited), there would be a couple hours on a bus (nope), we would be going to the Museum of Natural History. I said, "I'll be there in five minutes." Thank you Mr. Hilary for the experiences. I'll miss you!

Uncle Richard will be greatly missed. I last saw him at his blueberry farm in July 2014. It was a joy to see where his dreams had taken him in upstate New York. I spent the afternoon with him, picking blueberries with my girls and seeing his cabin.
My father always spoke fondly of his older brother and I can understand why. I was very happy to get to spend that afternoon with him and to introduce him to his youngest niece, who was just 6 months old at the time.

Two Sidney graduates, 20 years apart. Where did we meet? Southold Long Island from where my then-fiancée had graduated. She introduced me to her former principal.
Noticing the frogs which adorned his office, I asked about their significance. From there, we learned our Sidney connection, 200 miles away. He was a pleasure to meet.
Last saw Dick at the 2013 Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame induction. He was there to support his fellow football co-captain Dave Ineich who was an inductee.
My sincerely condolences to the family. His value in the worlds of education and scouting will never be truly measured.
