Obituary of Charlotte Rose Norton

Charlotte Rose Norton Sidney, NY Charlotte Rose Norton, 83 of Sidney, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. Charlotte was born on June 30, 1926, daughter of the late Otis L. and Elizabeth Alice (Schaaf) Norton in Peakville, NY. Charlotte was a graduate of Sidney High School Class of 1944. In 1950, she graduated from Oneonta State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. At Oneonta, she was president of the Alpha Kappa Phi Sorority and co-captain of the Girls Basketball team. Charlotte went on to teach for Schenectady Elementary Schools for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Charlotte greatly enjoyed traveling and camping in Canada. She also liked to golf and bowl, and loved doing her yard work. She also had a soft spot for kittens. Charlotte was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Sidney for many years. Charlotte is survived by: Two brothers: Joseph A. and Nancy Norton Sidney Lawrence E. and Sally Norton Arkville, NY As well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Otis Richard Norton in 1987, and her sister Eleanor Mertz in 2008. Friends are invited to call from 4:00-6:00pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor as celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlotte's name may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society 101 East Main St. Sidney, NY 13838 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
