Our earthly world has lost a pillar of strength, talent and goodness.
Our family has personally lost an adopted father, uncle, grandfather, mentor and dear friend.
"Uncle" Joe's keen interest and concern for the world was unmatched.
He gave the best tickle tortures, bear hugs and had a great sense of humor!
Best of all, he took an interest and inspired every child he met.
Peter and his brother Richard were two of those kids almost 70 years ago.
Joe "walked the walk" living his faith and love at every turn. He left us with so many wonderful memories. He modeled tolerance and a positive "can do" attitude, even in times of personal hardship and adversity.
His legacy, love of music and wisdom will live on in every life that he touched, especially ours. His volunteer work and philanthropy inspired all of us.
Thank you Barbara, family and friends for giving him so much happiness and joy and for caring for him so he could be with you for the majority of his long life on earth. He spoke lovingly of all of you every time we spoke or he visited.
Let us all honor Joe by paying special attention and lifting up a child or young person or do something for a forgotten adult in our lives.
Thank you Joe for your special military service to our country and for sharing so much love, kindness and wisdom with us. May your legacy and example strengthen all of us going forward.
We will miss you!
God Bless your family,
Peter, Sue, Anne and his namesake, Joe

Dearest Sister in Christ Barbara & your family,
Our lives have been enriched and blessed by knowing Joe. He was a quiet gentle man with enormous strength and wisdom. I will forever be thankful for his peaceful encouragement when I worked with him on a task force in Susquehanna Valley Presbytery to enact a much needed policy. His faith and uplifting nature has been an inspiration. He always had a twinkle in his eyes when ever he would mention your name, Barabara... and a beautiful smile when he spoke about his family. God bless you as you walk through the days ahead. We know that you all will find the Holy Spirit's comfort as you think back on the many fond memories that you all have shared with him.
Peace, Hope & Love in Christ's Service,
Karen and Bob Green

Barbara, I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your sweet husband Joe. Every time I saw him he was smiling, enjoying people, and just happy. He is not suffering and no longer in pain. He's basking in the love and light of our Lord, and catching up with family he hasn't seen in a long time. I know you will miss him. I love you my friend. Love and blessings, Robin Fox

Our family has been blessed with having Mr. Renton touch the lives of our four children. He inspired them not only to be better musicians, but more importantly better people.
Through the years I have had the privilege of spending numerous hours in wonderful conversation with Mr. Renton. I will always cherish him sharing stories of his life, love of music and the joy of helping others. His humbleness is inspiring.
Mr. and Mrs. Renton have positively impacted the lives of our community through their generosity and acts of kindness more often than will ever be known. Rest In Peace Mr. Renton and we know the smiles are brighter and the sound of music more soothing now that God has called you home to sit in the role of concertmaster in the brass band of heaven.
Our prayers go out to Mrs. Renton and their family.
Thank you for sharing Mr. Renton with us for so many years.

I first met Joe about twenty years ago. The Sidney Community Band was playing with the Sidney Middle School band in their spring concert in an effort to recruit students to play with over the summer. Joe was a kindred spirit who encouraged students to play music year round. He has been a mentor and role model for many student musicians from "The Fellas" to "The Quirky Quintet".
I Always looked forward to listen to him play with the Moonlighters. A few years ago at the Sidney Trailside the sun came out about half way through the concert along with a rainbow. Bob Shearer broke into somewhere over the rainbow and Joe answered and completed the phrase. This repeated back and forth until they completed the progression of a verse or two. Completely impromptu without music.
The Joe Rentons of the world are too few and too far between. Let us aspire to his example and encourage our youth to study music.

What a wonderful soul. Joe put the "man" in humanitarian.
I mentioned this on Facebook, but here is a prime example of how Joe approached life through music:
Nov 2, 2000. A Sidney graduate Marc Cerbone was being honored at the Baseball Hall of Fame for his involvement in the 2000 Summer Olympiad. He went from Sidney to Sydney...after his time in Cooperstown, Marc and everyone joined us at the library at Sidney HS for a reception.
At that reception was Joe Renton and Sidney Superintendent Nic Nuciforo...Nic played keyboard and Joe played trumpet. Together they provided a great musical background for the event. And their version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" was priceless.
For moments like those, and many more, I salute a great individual who truly lived my mantra that music is ageless and timeless. Bless you Joe!
