Dearest Beverly, Family and Friends,
Denny was a vigorous force of life, who had an impact on so many people. His contributions to the community, and his passion for issues are well known and endless. Always there for advice or help of any kind, big or small, whether he was asked or not, that too was part of his legacy. He was a good friend and neighbor. The silence is deafening, the void only filled
with love and the memory of his life well, spent and never forgotten. God bless you all.
Love,
Carol and Charles Seha

What a terrible loss. Denny was such a supporter of FFA (and all the kids for that matter). Was a joy knowing he was in charge. And our fondest memories were of busses to Oswegatchie, summer and winter, stopping at Wisheys, and to see the smile on his face when we put a ring of Croghan baloney on his desk! Holy cow!
Keep a watch over us Buddy!

To the Martin Family: I had the honor to know Denny for a long time as a Sidney student, through the Boys & Girls Club, as a peer at SHS, and most importantly as a friend. I can say Denny was one of the most honest, true to heart people I have ever met. The deep tones of "Hey Fralicker" ring in my memory as my friends and I were of course obeying the rules in the school halls! I know I speak for the 1,000's of kids who came in contact with Denny, our lives were better because we knew him. You are in our prayers. Bob and Kim Fralicker

The Wizard of Oz said it best, “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others”! What more needs to be said. Denny was just a wonderful human being. People go to school for years and get all kinds of degrees to do what Denny did naturally. He understood people, and dealt with them with honesty and compassion. Our condolences to his family. May everyone be comforted in knowing that Denny will be one of those Sidney "legends" that people will speak of long after we are all gone. He was that big and great of a person. May God's peace be with you!!

Years later he married me and my wife at that point in time outside of the civic center, which my mom and my grandma were both there and both knew denny very well. Years after that he was coordinating transportation for me and many others to the va in Albany. I had much respect for denny and always will. He was so important to Sidney High as truant officer. He called me one day to stop at the school to talk. My daughter was heading down a wrong path. Denny spent time with her to change her ways. I'm saddened by the loss everyone shares who knew Denny. He was a strong pillar for so many during his lifetime. He's now gone on to a better place and waits for his family and friends to join him. He was such a good brother, husband and father and wonderful friend, and his goodness will be remembered forever among us. Our old neighborhood gang from Oak Avenue and Winegard Street will always remember the rascal he was and will admire the man he became. He helped so many families during hard times and was a good friend to the ones he mentored. My family has been saddened by his passing, and we mourn with his family at this time. Thank you, Denny, for all you did for my family, and Bev, for being his rock and soul mate and friend to all of us. Condolences go out to you, Bev, Mary, and all of his family.

The passing of another Sidney stalwart is sad to accept. Two fine men in Dennis and Andy Peterson. As we reflect in the coming days, we will always hear Denny's unique laughter coupled by the understanding he had for the many young people he encountered in the hallways or the bus trips (of which there were many). Denny had impacted many adult and student in his days at Sidney HS. He captured the attention of many during his time at Sidney Central School. His demeanor was certainly one in which his jovial nature could take hold in many situations, BUT, at the same time, his seriousness could also take the forefront if need be. We want to wish his extended family our sincerest of condolences. We are hopeful that ALL can celebrate their memories of how Denny may have impacted them in the coming days.

Denny was just a staple of the High School when I was there (Class of '89). He could always be seen in the halls and behind the wheel of the bus for trips, etc.
You knew he was no nonsense & expected respect, but the way he carried himself caused one to give it to him. My brothers had several run ins w/ him as JP from getting into trouble, so if they had to go before him, you knew what to expect...he meant business! Whilst I myself was never in that position, his name was often tossed around the household during those times! LOL
I think Denny lived a life HE could be proud of which is everything as we tend to be our own harshest critics. My heart goes out to all thodse he left behind, but do not worry...you'll see each other again!

Roger and I are so sorry to hear of Denny's passing. He was a truly wonderful and caring person. He earned respect and he showed respect to so many.
He officiated our wedding in 1990 and if it wasn't for those twinkling eyes, I am not sure I would have gotten through it that day. He made us laugh so I wasn't so nervous.
When times of discipline were needed related to school issues, he was there. He helped bring things around for our family because he cared about what happened to kids. If it wasn't for his actions and compassion, I'm not sure our family would have made it through that time in our lives.
Denny will be missed by his family but also by a community. He was that one person who could be counted on for so many years. Sidney, you have lost an icon yet again.
Dawn and Shane, we wish we could come home to be with you right now. We are sending big hugs from Virginia. We are there in thoughts and will keep you in our prayers as you get through these next weeks.

I appreciate how strong of a leader Mr. Martin was as I grew up in Sidney. He always had great character. I can remember him disciplining the bus of kids that Mr. Clayton had one day. Having him upset with you felt worse than the Principal, but he knew how to get everyone's attention! It was an eye opener to know that we were actually disappointing someone so much. The bus of kids changed their behavior. Mr. Martin had such amazing presence. When he smiled at you, you knew he was proud of you. I did my Gold Award in Sidney, and I knew he was proud of me. He will be missed by many, and the family will feel it even deeper, but know you are not alone and over the next few months it will be apparent that his love and essence will be in many things that will surround you. Everyone knew Denny...everyone loved Denny. At times of discipline they detested Denny...but eventually they all came around.
It's who he was. He cared with being hard and he cared with humor. No one did it better.
I am so grateful to have had one last, and typical, exchange of barbs as he attended the Sidney Alumni Wall of Fame luncheon to help Gary Scavo celebrate his induction. Little did I know that was our last of many funny "bits" but I'll think of that often. He was the best.
Sympathies to all the family. Treasure the memories and cherish the long-lasting love he gave you all.
