Barbara (Schlafer) Fitzgerald
Sidney—Barbara (Schlafer) Fitzgerald, 93, passed away peacefully July 30, 2017.
Bobbie was born at home on the farm on December 27, 1923 to the late Alex and Mae (Walton) Schlafer.
She attended a 1 room school house ½ mile from home, then went to Guilford Schools. She was raised on the farm between East Guilford and Guilford Center until she moved to Sidney.
Barbara was predeceased by her first husband Bill Johnson and later married Calvin Lee Jones.
In August of 1965, Barbara married Gordon Fitzgerald in Guilford. He predeceased her September 25, 1975.
Barbara worked as a machinist for Allied Amphenol in Sidney when she retired.
She had over 50 years volunteering with the MacDonald Hose Ladies Auxiliary and a 67 year member of the Sidney American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Barbara loved to travel and was the most happy when she had a ticket in her hand. Her travels took her to Alaska, Hawaii, and across the country 3 times.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by her three siblings: Virginia Shattuck, Richard Schlafer, Jeanette Martin and son Teddy Lee Jones.
She is survived by:
Son – Gary Johnson Sr. and Joyce Frazier, Sidney
Daughter – Jo Ann Fitzgerald, Sidney
Grandchildren – Gary Johnson, Jr, Baltimore, MD and his children Dustin Babcock and Lucas Johnson
Wayne Johnson, Oneonta and his children Bryant, Devin and Abby Sue Johnson
Cheyenne Johnson, Binghamton and his son Gavin Johnson
Grandson – Scott Frazier, Masonville
Extended family, Margaret and Mark Colwell, Nineveh and children, Megan and Darcy Nelson
Edwin and Stephanie Frazier, Unadilla and children Jillian, Tiffany, Cassidy and Mallory Frazier
William Frazier, VA and his child, Taylor Frazier
Christine and James Roe, Endicott and children Thomas and Kimberlee Roe
And several nieces nephews and cousins
Barbara's family would like to thank the Hampshire House in Oneonta and the wonderful staff for the care they provided for her over the last nine years and the kindness shown to their Mother and her family. She loved it there. They would also like to thank Chestnut Park Rehab & Nursing Facility for their help and care during her brief stay.
Friends may call Friday, August 4, 2017 from 11:00 to 1:00 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Benjamin Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
