Obituary of Marga H. Stoop

Marga H. Stoop Marga H. (Strang) Stoop, 83, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at her home. She was born in Astoria, Long Island on July 2, 1934, the only child of the late Peter and Hermine (Heise) Strang. That same year, her family moved to Sidney where she grew up and graduated from Sidney Central School with the Class of 1952. She attended SUNY Morrisville and received her LPN, working as a nurse at Syracuse General Hospital as well as Mercy Hospital in Miami, FL. Marga was a dedicated member of the First Congregational Church of Sidney since 1947. On October 13, 1956, she was married to Peter Stoop, Jr. in DeLancey, NY. It was then that her most important life work began: being a devoted wife and mother, and eventually grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also a faithful daughter, caring for her parents for many years. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Marga is survived by: her husband of 60 years, Peter Stoop of Sidney; two children: Laurie Williams and her husband, Ronald of Sidney and Peter Stoop and his companion, Sherri of California; two grandsons: Jeremy Williams and his wife, Steffanie, and their children Joshua, Margret and Kaylee; and Scott Williams and his wife, Daiana, and their children Hailey and Hannah. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ted and Hilda Stoop and a sister-in-law, Ann Stoop. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the First Congregational Church, 1 Bridge Street Sidney, NY 13838. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the start of the service. Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, will follow.
