Richard J. Gardner
Sidney—Richard J. Gardner, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. He was born on February 28, 1949 to the late Clarence and Marcella (Lowry) Gardner in Sidney.
He graduated from Sidney Central School with the Class of 1969 and received his Associate Degree from DeVry University. He served his country and received honorable discharges from both the US Navy and the US Air Force Reserve. Richard was a member of the Sidney American Legion, VFW and the Sidney Elks Lodge.
Richard is survived by: a son, Kevin, and grandson, Lucious, both of St. Pete, FL; sister, Kay Thrower of Sidney; nieces: Michele and Diana Thrower of Sidney, Cheri Thrower of Morrison, CO and Cheryl Brunton of Ohio; great-nephew, Josh Thrower SPC of Ft. Carson, CO; nephews, Brad and Walt of FL as well as other nieces and nephews; and his best bud, Colin Kelly.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Clarence, Jr. and sister-in-law, Verna.
Friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Memorial services will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
