Obituary of Valerie L. Hafele

Valerie L. Hafele Unadilla—Valerie Lynn Hafele, 59, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She was born on November 24, 1957, daughter of the late Luther and Marilyn (Peck) Eggleston in Sidney. Val graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central School with the Class of 1976. On October 18, 1980, she was married to Mark S. Hafele in Masonville. They shared 33 happy years together before he predeceased her on September 5, 2014. Val worked at Amphenol Corp. for over 20 years and had many friends there. Val and Mark loved to travel with their family. They also enjoyed trips to Niagara Falls which always included a stop at the casinos to play the slots. Val loved golfing and just having fun in general. Her family brought her the most joy in her life, however. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and an enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. Valerie is survived by: three children: Greg and Bridgitt Eggleston, Guilford; Matt and Kelli Hafele, Otego; and Darcee and Mike Lewis, Masonville; 8 grandchildren: Austin, Braden, Cameron and Sophie Eggleston, Mallory and Ella Hafele and Kaylen and Korinne Lewis; mother-in-law, Janette Hafele, Unadilla; two brothers, Gary and Jeff Eggleston; special uncle, Dale Wagner; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and countless friends. A celebration of Val's life will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Hardwood Hills Golf Course, 11160 State Highway 8, Masonville, NY 13804 beginning at 2:00pm following a golf tournament that will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to benefit her grandson, Austin, who will be competing in the US Marines Cadet National Wrestling Tournament.
