To the whole Thornton family-
Another anchor in the community gone from us. How lucky we all were to have known him. He shared of his self in so many little ways and always watched out for those in need. Our families shared many great times together. Band and color guard trips, making cider, football games, sporting events, super bowl parties, bluegrass festivals to name a few. Even if it was haying season, he always somehow made it to the event to be a part of it. Thanks for sharing him with all of us. I hope you find some peace with his passing. Please know there are many grieving with you. He will be missed. RIP Rex. I'm sure the boys will kick off a good tune for you! We love you all

I first took care of Rena at Valley View years ago. Thats where I met Rex. We made an instant conection and had a lifetime bond. I loved seeing him come in and care for his mother in law and then in later years I cared for him. I remember one time he helped with a party valley view was having and it was a hawaiian party luau. We put on grass skirts and danced. I just loved his wit he had. Forever in my heart Rex and Bev and family. God Bless.

My condolences and prayers are with you during this time of loss. There are so many of us former BG students and us West Bainbridge neighbors who were impacted by Rex and all he gave to everyone. I always had a smile when I saw he was driving the bus for any sports game. And also was at ease if he was driving us home safe in sound in the snow. A big heart and a kind smile and great stories. It was such a gift to know him.
May he rest in peace with the glory of God in heaven.

I am very saddened to hear of Rex passing.
I loved him and owe my life to him.
I was a point Guard at Bainbridge Guilford central school and suddenly at collapsed with the asthma attack without knowing I had asthma. Rex was the first one down off the bleachers with an inhaler Primatene Mist , pick my head up sprayed it down my throat , and said not get back in there Fletcher ! Slaps my hind end…… He was like a father to me and many!
Every summer band trip, his bus was the one to ride!
My brother , Tad Fletcher, John Mertz, myself and others scaled the bus fence to make sure we got our seats on Rex bus. The next morning, about to head out, all our stuff was in a heep , on the ground ,and Mr. Smith wanted some answers...
He will be missed however, Roger Fletcher sure will be happy to see him in heaven!
Praying for y'all. May God bless you and give you strength. Amen

I rode Rex's bus 75 from my first day of school until 6th grade when I moved to a different school district. Every morning he would greet me with a good morning Mel-Lisa, my real name was Melissa. I never corrected him because I thought it would have been disrespectful. Years later when I was in my early 20's, I was serving dinner to the members of Lions club when I hear Mel-Lisa, I haven't seen you since you were this tall. How he recognized me after all those years, and all the kids he watched grow up, I do not know. But he sure did make me feel special to hear him mispronounce my name after all those years. I am so sorry for you loss, he was truly a wonderful man!

I was so very sorry to hear of Rex's passing. Rex was my bus driver when I lived on Dingman Hill. He always greeted us with a warm smile and kind words and ALWAYS watched out for us (mind you, I was only 6). In later years while visiting my grandparents, Bill and Florence Rosa, I ran into Rex several times and despite the passing of years and the fact that I had moved away, he STILL remembered me. Rest peacefully dear Rex.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Rex's passing. For many years, Rex transported hundreds of my band students thousands of miles, often volunteering his time, and always bringing them home safely. You could always count on Rex to be there when you needed him, especially on those long overnighters!
