Obituary of Virginia W. Derrick

Virginia W. Derrick Sidney, NY Virginia W. Derrick, 83, of Sidney passed away early Sunday, January 17, 2010 into the peace and presence of her Lord and Shepherd, Jesus Christ. She was born February 12, 1926, the daughter of Gerald and Beatrice Leal Walker. She was a graduate of Sidney High School, class of 1943, where she was class president. On Feb 2, 1946 she married Gerald Derrick in Sidney who predeceased her on July 2, 1995. After graduation she went to work in Amphenol, as a time clerk until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Sacred Heart Church and the breakfast crew at the Trackside Diner. She enjoyed many summers over at her cottage on Silver Lake with her close friends, Joyce and Frank Scott as well as her daily chats with her close friend Gracie Grover. Ginny is survived by her son Richard Derrick, her brothers and sister-in-laws Gerald and Betty Walker, William and Esther Walker, her sister Colleen Scott and her husband Keith, and her sister-in-law Barbara Walker whose husband Duane died on October 27, 2007. She was predeceased by her daughter Christine in December 2008 and her sister Wanda Waldron who died this past summer a year after her husband Clifford died in 2008. Ginny was also predeceased by her nephew, Duane Waldron in 1966. She was the grandmother, or grandma, to four fine grandchildren. Alison, Kyle and Patrick are the children of Christine and her husband, Jon Marti, of Warren, PA. Grant Derrick is the son of Richard Derrick and Marie Halle, of Ottawa, who is now married to Jim Matthews. She is also survived by the Volinski family located in East Brunswick, NJ, i.e. John, the husband of Marion Volinski and their children, Carol, Linda, and Johnny. Also on the paternal side she is survived by Marc and Joey Zdimal, sons of Joseph and Arlene and their families and Peg Zdimal, Joe's wife, who resides in Endwell. Her one-time neighbors and brother and sister-in-law Albert and Uneta Derrick moved to Florida many years ago but passed away there. Their sons, William (Bill), Scotty, Tommy and Rusty live in the Melbourne area. Their older brothers, Raymond and Ronnie reside in Austin, TX. On the maternal side, she is survived by Gale, Keith, Kim and Tom, the children of William and Esther Walker.Gerry the III, Brenda, Laura, Cheryl and Paul, the children of Gerald and Betty Walker.Beth, Brian and Barbara, the children of Keith and Colleen Scott.Debbie, Susie, Mike and Cindee, the children of Duane and Barbara Walker.Diane and Carolyn, the daughters of Clif and Wanda Waldron. To all these family members, their extended families and friends she reaches out in love and hopes you will call on her Saturday January 23rd at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street in Sidney from 11:00am-1:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm with Rev. Gordon Polenz officiating. A fellowship meal will follow at a place to be announced. Interment will be at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
