Obituary of Colette Yvonne Wood

Colette Yvonne Wood Colette Yvonne Wood, 63 passed away after a long battle with breast cancer on Friday, January 13 surrounded by family at her home in Sidney, NY. Colette was born in Sidney on June 10, 1953 to William and Sandra DeCocker of Sidney Center. She is a 1971 graduate of Sidney Central School and married her high school sweetheart, Peter Wood, the same year. Together, Pete and Colette lived an extraordinary life together raising four sons (and their friends, who Colette considered "her boys") and playing music together in the country-rock group "The Misty River Band." The band, with Colette singing lead vocals, performed for over a decade to their many fans throughout the Southern Tier and opened for legendary greats like Johnny Paycheck, The Whites, and Randy Travis. In 1998, Colette graduated from Broome Community College with high honors to pursue her interest in communications. Everyone who has met Colette knows how big her heart was and how much fun she was to be around. She loved sharing stories, singing, bonfires and watching the sunsets on the Susquehanna river. Colette loved animals and raised many throughout the years including her current pets, Billy, a morkie, and Bubba the Chihuahua. She was a faithful Christian who truly embodied compassion and always made friends, family, and strangers feel welcome and loved. Her spirit is a gift to the many lives she has touched. Colette is survived by her parents, Bill and Sandy DeCocker; husband Pete; siblings Bill Jr. (Dawn), Bob (Carmen), Lori (Rick) French, and Alan; children Garrett (Candace), Jared (Christina), Aaron, and Jeff (Lisa); grandchildren Hannah, Caroline, Lily, Owen, and Whitney; and her very dear friend Junal Jump. Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, January 17 from 5-8 pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Home in Sidney and the funeral will be held at the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty Street, at 11 am on Wednesday, January 18 and will be officiated by family friend, Pastor Bill Orr. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that people consider donating to either the Sidney Center Family and Friends Church or to Catskill Area Hospice.
