Obituary of Bertis William Jump

Bertis W. Jump Bainbridge—Bertis W. Jump, 90, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal. He was born on May 12, 1926, son of the late Reuben and Frances (Pierce) Jump in Masonville. On July 14, 1948, Bert was married to Helen Jones in Deposit, NY. She predeceased him on March 21, 2007 after 58 years of marriage. Bert was a lifelong farmer, growing up on the family farm and owning his own farm, Mai-Bridge Farm, for over 50 years. He also sold Hoffman Seed for many years. Together, Bert and Helen made and sold maple syrup for over 40 years. Bert took great pride and joy in caring for the animals and the earth. He was a former 4-H leader and served on the A.S.C.S. Soil and Water Conservation Committee for many years. Bert was a longtime active member of the Masonville Federated Church as well as a Deacon. Over the years, he was involved in many church projects, including the Memorial Day Chicken Barbeque. He also grew many of the vegetables for the annual Harvest Supper for several years. Bert is survived by: two sons; David Jump and his companion, Donna of China Grove, NC; and Steven and Leona Jump of Bainbridge; sister, Lillian Jump of Lehigh Acres, FL; 5 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Helen, Bert was predeceased by four brothers: Ralph, Clarence, Frank and Robert Jump. Friends may call from 11:00am-1:00pm on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in the spring in Masonville Cemetery, Masonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bert's name may be directed to the Masonville Federated Church.
