This is hard. Over 50 years ago when I moved into the village from the country my eyes were opened to a whole new world. I was 12. Tom was already my friend but being able to walk everywhere and hangout together was great. In comes the Diner. I remember sitting in the back booth with Tom and our other friends studying or just visiting. We could sit there as long as the diner wasn't busy. I remember your Dad always busy and when he walked into the room everyone else was busy too. He was tough but he could be so funny in a snap. I missed Tom when he moved away and when he passed he took a piece of my heart. He was a friend. Your Dad and Mom moved on through the years and after they left the Diner it was never the same. Great memories for so many people I am sure. I live in Florida but every time I would come home I would see Mr. Henchey (never could call him Larry). It was usually at a game or school event. He always seemed happy to see you. I read all the comments and so agree to it all. He was a great asset to the community and a role model to all. I am sure his memory will live on forever in your families hearts and in the hearts and memories of the beautiful village of Unadilla. "Peace Larry" Love Debbie

It has taken me days to say something on this site
What do you say about a man you loved and admired for 50 years. From the days of going to Riverside park ,when we lived in NYC ,as a child ( I was an only child for 8 years.) Following my dad on his mailman route in Long Island, to following him around the diner. "Pick Up" were his favorite words to me while working as a waitress.
What a way to grow up. When I was in college and others complained about their parents. I used to say I grew up with Ozzie and Harriet!!
My heart breaks that I won't see dad anymore, but his memory will always keep me UP We will celebrate his life this summer, we expect you all to be there.

Sharon, Scott, Tamara:
My brothers and I have many fond memories of your Dad, and especially working at the Unadilla Diner. He was so energetic, always working, always moving - a Unadilla institution! He had a long full life and will be greatly missed. (Mike Johnson and Ric, Jim, Jerry)

Our lives the last couple of weeks have not been the same. Missing your daily stops to have a cigar and chit chat. You were the best father-in-law a girl could ask for. I think about you everyday with tear filled eyes. Please know, I will take good care of your son always. Love you, ML

our hearts and prayers go out to Scott, Marylynn, Tamara and the rest of Henchey family on the passing of Larry. We have fond memories of Larry and the diner. I loved to talk to him while he cracked 4 eggs between his fingers and taste those home fries which I have yet to find any better. May he rest in peace and you guys find comfort in your memories

In memory of a great man. He taught those of us fortunate enough to work for him so many life lessons. Thank you for helping to raise half of the Village of Unadilla by giving us jobs and responsibility. So glad you are with your beloved Harriet (Hat) now. Two very beautiful people that I was Blessed to know. May you be resting in peace.
