Obituary of James K. Stanton

James K. Stanton Afton, NY James K. Stanton, 69, of Afton, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Jim was born on June 19, 1947, son of Kenneth and Marian Jean (VanValkenburg) Stanton in Afton. He graduated from Afton Central School in 1965. He attended Mohawk Valley College, studying retail management, and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Hawaii. He lived in Hawaii for 11 years before returning to the Afton area. Jim loved sports memorabilia; New York Yankees baseball especially. He enjoyed race cars and cheering for NASCAR driver Tony Stewart. Jim was well read and loved to learn about anything; he was particularly interested in American History. Jim enjoyed his luncheons with his mom's former classmates and friends that they would attend together each month. He is survived by his mother, M. Jean Stanton; his aunt, Mary VanValkenburg and several cousins and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Stanton in 1950. At his request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deposit.
