Obituary of David J. McWherter

David J. McWherter Sidney, NY David John McWherter, 74, of Sidney, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. He was a 9 year survivor of prostate cancer. Dave was born on February 15, 1942, son of the late Millar and Lillian (Mudge) McWherter in the town of Fenton, and grew up on a farm in Franklin. He served his country honorably in the US Air Force. Dave was well known around the Sidney community. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sidney Fire Department for many years. He worked for Unalam for over 40 years. He loved to bowl, was an avid Mets fan, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He'll be missed by extended family members, including Joseph Robert Ballard and Jason Andrew Ballard, sisters-in-law, Betty and Judi, and Nancy; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Charlie, and his sister, Alice. A celebration of David's life will be held at the Sidney American Legion Post 183 on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00pm.
