I am so sorry to read in the Oneonta Reflections of Melody's passing. Melody and I were friends in college. We attended church together and were in several classes together. We did not keep in contact after college, but I have sweet memories of such a sweet spirited girl. So sorry! ~Donna Cmaylo

Dear Darby and Liam,
I am so grateful for having known your mother--before you were born. She lived over the store on Spruce Street snd our family lived a block away on Church and Center. My son Thor was a very special friend of Melody.
How glad I was to see Melody years later and I can remember meeting her beautiful red haired daughter. Later I found Melody working at the Green Toad. All the wonderful things said in her obituary ring so true. Memories of your dedicated mom live on.
With love and sympathy, Alice Siegfried

Melody was the very first babysitter for our grandson, Jordan Shafer (who is now 15).
She was so caring and kind with him. She even came up to our house on West Main St.in Sidney to see him! We really, really liked her and were so sorry to read her obituary today.
Our deepest sympathy and prayers for Melody' s family.

I am shocked and saddened to hear Melody has passed. She was such a giving and loving spirit. When she closed her bookstore in Sidney she encouraged me to take her cash register, microfiche machine and shelves. She then taught me to use it so her customers would have an outlet for books. She refused any money and even ordered books from me. She leaves such a legacy of kindness that is very rare these days.
May God keep her children and family close.

I have enjoyed working with Melody throughout this school year. We taught a small group of second graders after school together. She read to them every afternoon and instilled a love of literature to all of them. Each afternoon they couldn't wait to see what author she had picked for them. She always had a story to share about her two children. She loved the both of them more than life itself. She will be missed by all!
