Due to the many health issues I have been experiencing for the past few years it is truly my regret that I couldn't attend the calling hours, or the Mass with military honors. I have been a close friend of Perry and Teresa since 1992. They hired me to so a little domestic type housework for them, and I continued to do so even after Theresa dies In the year of 2002, I underwent lumbar back surgery, and it led to more serious back problems, and by 2006, I had to quit working for Perry, as well as others. I always loved to visit with him, about once a month, even though I couldn't work for him any longer, after church on Sunday. He was a wonderful interesting intelligent man. and a loving devoted caregiver to his wonderful ailing wife, Theresa, till her passing. I would like to express my sincere condolences to his wonderful family, and many dear friends through his many years on this earth.....Love and Prayers...Betty Carlson and family

We have never met, but I want to let you know that I remember Mr. Shelton from my childhood. My Dad, Wally Wynkoop, served on the Board of Supervisors in the late 50's and worked with Mr. Shelton frequently for many years. I recall how much care and respect they had for each other long after my Dad was doing other things. I personally recall him as a very distinguished gentleman. After Dad died in 1999, he sent Christmas cards to my mother until her death in 2010 and she was always glad to hear from him. I am very glad you had your loved one for many years, although it never seems like enough. May you find comfort knowing that your loved one is remembered well beyond your family circle.

I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Perry's family. Perry was a friend and confidant of mine during my ten years in the NYS Assembly and we often visited at my Sidney office or at his home. He was always so inquisitive and provided excellent advice. WE all owe a deep debt of gratitude to Perry for his leadership in the fight against the 1990 NYC DEP discussion draft watershed regulations. He stood tall for our rights as property owners and citizens who happen to live in the NYC Watersheds. As Chair of WAC, Perry and I often discussed strategy dealing with the NYCDEP.
The key to the success in preserving our rights and getting an agreement with NYCDEP was Perry! He invited Commissioner Gelber to his house and initiated a dialog between two individuals committed to working together.
Thank you Perry for your leadership on behalf of the watershed. Thank you to his family for sharing him and his leadership skills for all the people in the watershed. Perry clearly helped shape the future of the Catskills.
I am so sorry I am unable to attend the service but I will definitely be there in spirit. With fond memories, Dick Coombe

want to say those of us who knew Perry and his love and respect for Trout Creek, I remember sitting in on town board meetings In the 70's his open mind to consider each and every ones voice to be heard. When I would visit him at the vets home the story's he would share about moving to NY how his life started. he shared many story's about my mom,the republican committee of Delaware co. and of course How he would do everything to keep the taxes low for the town. His greatest accomplishment was the water shed project. He was an amazing humbled man. May you Rest now Perry. Thoughts with all of those who he has touched to carry on Perry's dignity

It was an honor to have known and worked with Perry Shelton over the past 25 years. His openness and willingness to consider the opinions of others, coupled with his sound judgment made him a pleasure to work with. When I last visited with Perry at the Veteran's Home in 2013, while frail, he still had his keen mind, peppering me with questions about the Watershed Agreement and its players. Those steely blue eyes ever fixed right on you.
A true gentle giant.
May his name be for a blessing.

My deepest sympathies to Perry Shelton's family and wide circle of friends. I was honored to have known and worked with him through the time before, during and after the historic watershed agreement. His head and heart were always focused on what would improve the lives and communities of the Catskills and preserve clean water for all New Yorkers. He taught us all a lot about principles, fairness, and making things happen that can bring lasting value to our communities. He was deeply loved and very much missed.

Perry's kindness and character reflected the best qualities of "the Greatest Generation": hard work and sacrifice without complaint, appreciation of family and the world's beauty, dedication to his country and his community. Service, with a Capital S, was in his DNA. Perry was modest to a fault, but played a big role in Catskills history. I treasure the stories he shared with me, and will remember him with great affection.

Deepest sympathies to Perry's family and many community friends and admirers. Twenty years ago we struggled and then came together to create an agreement to protect the Catskill watershed and its communities. Perry's strength, goodness, and leadership brought out the best in everyone and made this long-lasting achievement possible. His legacy lives on in the pure clean water we drink and in the green mountains and valleys of the Catskills. I will miss him very much.
