Obituary of Ferral D. Thurston

Ferral Dean Thurston Ferral Dean Thurston, 81, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Fox Hospital Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born October 10, 1934 in Sidney Center, NY, the daughter of Ralph and Hazel (Laraway) Dean. She married Kenneth B. Thurston Sr. on October 17, 1952 in Wells Bridge. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and watching the birds around their home. She enjoyed her dog Sandy and the many cats that came to visit. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of 63 years; her children Kenneth B. Thurston, Jr., Wildwood, Florida, Lynne Althea Shanks (Daniel), Oneonta, Steven David Thurston (Donna), Wells Bridge, Russell Wayne Thurston (Brenda), Trout Creek, and MaryEllen Harageones (Jim), Unadilla; her beloved grandchildren Alisia, Benjamin, Martin, Jessie, Jamie, Melissa, Sheryl, Michael, Rachel, Aaron, Tammy, and David; her precious great grandchildren Aryanna, Logan, Julia, Abigail, Grace, Roman, Aiden, Madison, Addie, and Katelyn; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Ralph, her mother Hazel, her sisters Althea and Lillian, all of Sidney Center, NY. She was also predeceased by her daughter in-law Daryl (Jones) Thurston of Wildwood, Florida. Ferral spent many years working at The Hospital, Sidney, NY as an aide and then a LPN on the nursing home unit. She was often called to help in the Emergency Room, Maternity, and the Medical/Surgical units. She enjoyed most caring for the elderly and the handicapped. A memorial service will be held at C. H. Landers Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Farmer, officiating on Sunday, April 3rd at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 Main Street, Sidney, NY 13838 in Ferral's name. Condolences may be shared online at www.landersfh.com.
