To the entire Lockhart Family: Words cannot express how sad we are with the passing of Howie. He was truly one of the most amazing friends we had, he would just light up a room with his charisma and jokes when he showed up, he was the life of the party for sure. He fought a long hard battle and you all should be very proud of him. He is now pain free and heaven has definitely gained a great Angel to look down upon us all, R.I.P. my friend, you will be missed!
Love,
Dick and Chris Huether

Ellen,
My heartfelt condolences to you, your children and entire family. I worked with Howie a long time ago and he was one of the best supervisors I had during my years at Quigley. He was a phenomenal human being.
May he rest in peace. May you be comforted in knowing you were married to an awesome human being. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
We are all better people because we knew Howie.
Hugs,

Howie was always a fun person to be around. There was never a dull moment when you were with him. We had lively discussions about topics we both believed, and disagreed, passionately, about but, there was always love and respect behind it.
He was always generous with his time, picking me up from airports with my children and sharing his time and love with those same kids. Even in his illness he managed to attend my son’s wedding and we are very grateful that he did.
Howie will be sorely missed by all of us, but his smile lives on in his wonderful children and grandchildren.

I met Howard for the first time at US Steel Fairfield sometime in the late seventies. We spent the day putting in tap holes and getting acquainted (Upstate New York meets Heart-of-Dixie Redneck). That night with my partner “Cuz” in tow, we introduced our new Yankee buddy to Hank Williams and Johnny Cash on the Juke Box, and Howard entertained the Elks Lodge brethren with “Ein Prosit” until the wee hours. I liked him from the jump . . .
We shared hard work, hard times, and memories to fill a book over the next many years, but most of all, we shared friendship.
Howard and I had a mutual love for movies. One in particular, that we often discussed, was “The Outlaw Josey Wales” There’s a scene early in the film where Josey is kneeling over his young friend who had just died from a gunshot wound. He spoke these words over the lifeless body.
“This boy was brought up in...
...a time of blood and dying,
and never questioned a bit of it.
Never turned his back
on his folks or his kind.
I rode with him, I got no complaints.”
Howard, we were friends for close to forty years. We worked together, we laughed together, and yes we cried together . . . and my friend . . .“I got no complaints”
I will dearly miss you. Rest in Peace.
Ellen, Our hearts are with you and your family.
