Death Certificates

A Certified Death Certificate is necessary before anything can be done.  A death certificate can be obtained through a Funeral Director.  They are issued through the registrar or clerk of the municipality where the death occurs.  Costs may vary.

It is a good idea to obtain multiple copies of a death certificate as most agencies require a certified certificate and not a photocopy, although it does not hurt to ask if a photocopy will be accepted.  Your lawyer can also advise as to how many certified copies would be required based on the estate.
