Obituary of Frank Joseph Burns

Frank J. Burns Bainbridge, NY Frank Joseph Burns, 78, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. Frank was born on October 4, 1935, son of the late Frank, Sr. and Agnes (Gilbertsen) Burns in Brooklyn, NY. When he was young, his family relocated to the Tri-Town area where he spent the rest of his life. Frank left high school to join the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On November 1, 1958, he was married to Roberta Zimmerman in Sidney. Frank worked as the meat department manager for Victory Markets/Great American in Sidney for 30 years and for BJ's Wholesale in Oneonta for 10 years. He was a dedicated life member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #2175 in Sidney where he helped start their Bingo program. Additionally, he was a member of the Corporal R.H. Arrandale VFW Post 7914 and the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post 183, both of Sidney. Frank is survived by: His loving wife of 55 years, Roberta Burns 3 Children: Sharon, Patrick, and Frank (fiancée, Kate) 3 grandchildren: Brendon, Samantha and Kyla Great-grandson, Silas As well as several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his sister, Jean Crandall. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Sidney Elks Lodge #2175, 104 River Street, Sidney from 11:00am to 4:00pm when the family will be in attendance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frank's name may be directed to the Sidney Elks Lodge #2175, or to either of the Veterans Service organizations he belonged to.
