Obituary of Anne Pryor Jayne

Anne P. Jayne Sidney, NY Anne Pryor Jayne, age 89, of 73 Pearl Street, Sidney, New York passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013. Mrs. Jayne was born July 22nd, 1924 in Herkimer, New York. She was the daughter of John Bergen Pryor and Helen Hartnett Pryor. She had three brothers, Ted, Bob, and Bill Pryor. She was married August 24th, 1946 to Harold W. Jayne in Rochester, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Bud, in 1986 and her daughter Susan Jayne Slocum in 1980. Mrs. Jayne was a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Nursing where she met her future husband who was in the Medical School. During her nursing career she had been employed at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, Variety Children's Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida, and the Hospital in Sidney, New York. She was very active during her life in Sidney. She was one of the original organizers of the Candy Striper program at The Hospital. She had been a Red Cross volunteer, a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, a volunteer at The Hospital, and a member of the Sidney ARCA Board Foundation. She is survived by her son, Christopher and his wife Julie, Merrimac, MA, and their children, Matthew and Jeremy; son, Peter of Asheville, NC, and his children Jotham, Tara, and Tui; daughter, Elizabeth Shepard and her husband Ben of Medway, MA, and their children Anne and David; and her son, Patrick and his wife Sally of Unadilla, NY. Friends are invited to call from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, October 16th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 15 Liberty Street Sidney, with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association of Central New York, 401 Hayes Ave. Endicott, NY 13760 or to the charity of one's choice.
