Dixie may not have been raised in Sidney, but he firmly established his Commitment to this community for the majority of his adult life. I enjoyed our conversations, laughed at those coveralls, and took pride when he helped dedicate WCDO on May 8, 1982 with me in the DJ chair that day. I was able to chat one more time - in line at SFCU - and it was like the 10 years since we last talked never happened. Thank you Dixie for your dedication and compassion to our village. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dixie first as the Mayor of Sidney working in the village office with him, and am glad to have called him a friend as well even long after he retired. Dixie will be missed by those of us who knew him, but more importantly he lives on in all he touched in this community. Dixie was a fair man with a great sense of humor - I wonder if he threw his hat in the pearly gates before he entered LOL - RIP Dixie job well done here on Earth...

I am most sorry that I cannot attend visiting hours due to illness. Dixie was an amazing person who did so much for Sidney, plus anyone could talk to him and enjoy the conversation. My best to his two sons, and their spouses, also.

I am sorry I could not attend the calling hours for Dixie tonight because of physical problems, but I will always remember Dixie & Ruth as loyal friends both personally and as previous long-time members of the First Baptist Church in Bainbridge. Ruth was noted for her baking skills and when my first husband, Elmer Smith, turned 75, we had a party for which she made the cake. Later on my father, Maurice McGinnis, was striken with a heart attack and taken to the Sidney Hospital. It was late at night but as all of us in immediate family stayed waiting for the outcome, somehow Dixie found out about it and came to the hospital and sat and prayed with us until we received the final announcement. We'll miss seeing him in the stores and stopping for pleasant conversation and updates. Many people will remember his dedication to his position as mayor of Sidney. We'll miss seeing him and chatting in the stores. God must have a special place for him.

Dixie's wife, Ruth, is a part of my ancestry. Her mother was Ruth Palmer Terryberry. Ruth wrote to me several times when my mother and father died. I appreciated that so much, but was very busy and eventually we stopped writing. She wanted me to learn about the Beach side of my/our family, but again I was very busy.
Now retired I am sorting through many papers and the info she sent has been most helpful as I do my genealogy.
If she is still living (as I see from your father's obit) I would like to send her a card.
My e-address is above.
I am Joan Palmer O'Connor. Ruth and my dad, Reginald Palmer, were cousins.
I am sorry to read of Dixie's death. I still miss my parents very much and they've been gone 25 yrs. Condolences to all of the Davis family.
