Elizabeth K. "Betsy" Button 81 of Sidney passed away peacefully at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.
She was born October 11, 1931, daughter of the late Clifford and Alma (Curtis) Knapp in Syracuse. Betsy married Nelson Button on June 12, 1954 in Onondaga Hill. He predeceased her on December 30, 2010.
Betsy graduated from Syracuse University with a Masters degree in education. She taught in the Sidney Central School system for many years, primarily in the Masonville Elementary School. Betsy was passionate about teaching and adored her students. She was honored to be named Teacher of the Year. Upon retiring, Betsy and Nelson focused on raising and showing AKC Cocker Spaniels. Betsy also devoted her time to the Hill and Valley Garden Club, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and for many years Betsy served on the Board of the Sidney Memorial Public Library.
She is survived by:
Daughters - Peggy Hillis and companion Dale Bryden, Delhi
Susan McCumiskey and husband, John, Norwich
A Grandson - Michael Bryden
As well as nephews.
Betsy was also predeceased by a brother, David Knapp and Sister, Beatrice Rea
Friends may call Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 4-7 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Pat Robinson officiating.
Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery will follow
