I remember the first time I met Walt and Val. I had to give a talk at the NYSC meeting in Bingmington NY. We had so much fun at dinner and for the entire day I was there. It was quite a job getting home because of snow, but I made it.
Walt, you will be missed by all whose lives you touched and there were many including mine. Your determination and compassion for helping your fellow veterans was admired by all.
May you rest in peace, my dear friend and brother.

Walt took care of me and my sister Sarah when we were kids. He would always make me run up and down the stairs and do push ups for misbehaving. Needless to say I got a lot of exercise back then! Although I have not seen him in years he holds a special place in my thoughts and heart. Love you Walt. Rerah

Walt, I grew up to have a pretty darn good sense of humor! Just so you know... :)
Val and Melinda: I often look at the portrait Walt let me take of him for my college class. It symbolized everything I know meant a lot to him. We spent a lot of time there as kids. I think he helped me develop a thick skin with all his picking...well as thick as it can be. Love you all and lots of thoughts for you. And Happy Birthday Val! I'll share a piece of my cake with you tonight.

Val~I am so sorry for your loss. It has been many years since we spent week after week at the bowling alley together...but always those memories are ones of laughing with you, Cher, Gloria, my mom. And I always remember the Memorial Day Parades when my son would march with the scouts and Walt would speak. So grateful for his service and sacrifice. May he rest in peace. May your memories comfort you and all that loved him.

In 1987, I had a 15-year old referred to my caseload in Delaware County. His father was a Vietnam vet, who tried his best, but had serious problems. The mother had abandoned them. More, the boy was going blind. He was angry, and not willing to listen to any social workers. So I approached Walter, and told him about the situation. He was happy to volunteer his time, and talk with this young fellow numerous times. And it surely helped. Not the type of thing Walt and Val told many people; they weren't looking for recognition. But I'll never forget how they helped this kid.

It was such a great place to go and visit at Walt and Val's. When I think back, I went over very often. Val, neither you nor Walt ever acted like you wished I'd stay away for awhile. Thank God for giving us your household. Love, Carol
