I remember Mr. Laing as Coach Laing, I had the pleasure of pitching for the Little League team(s) that he coached. He was one individual in MY life who's kindness and patience I have carried fondly all this time, about 40+ years. I hope he knew how much he paid it forward to so many of us kids. I look forward to playing ball for you again one day.

In the 70s, school rivalries were pretty cool. And within those rivalries we learned of the great families that existed in those "other" schools.
The Laing family was one of those families - still is. I tip my hat to the highly successful Bluegrass Festivals they organized. Lots of work for a weekend of fun, and no one had more fun than Bill. My condolences to the families. May Bill twang away in heaven for all eternity!

Roxie, Spanky, Paul and Larry...your dad was a wonderful man with a big heart. I remember your parents offering their home for high school parties (after prom, I think) and all their/his support of band trips. My fondest memory of him was when he helped me get to a bowling tourney on time after I had an accident. By the time I got back, he had the car all fixed and waiting for me. He was just plain great!

Ma Laing, Roxy, Spank, Paul & Larry ... Many fond memories! Will never forget your Dad's support at football and baseball games, rides in the back of that blue and silver pick up to go scout another football game, sharing a cup of coffee, talking deer hunting, the Ole Man coming out to the bon-fire to check on us and share a cigar, the MANY meals that I shared with you all during our school years, and of course listening to the brother's play some Blue Grass! A smile for everyone, a word of encouragement, and his down to earth interest in what someone had to say, a joke, a story, a slap on the back. The memories are endless. It's those memories that we will all cherish and hold in our hearts. Bill was one of the Good Ole Boys and will be missed by all who had the fortune to know him!

I was sharing the story, "A Coat of Many Colors" to my second graders today and was reminded of all the times we were all together. There was much laughter. Remember watching the Carol Burnett show, on a satellite dish!? Uncle Bill would laugh so much it made the rest of us laugh. Dad did a great impression of Tim Conway which would cause even more laughter. So many memories!!! Probably the best was when he officiated my wedding-still going strong 20 years later!!!

Bill was my teacher, my cousin, my friend who sometimes spoke to me like a "Dutch Uncle" when I was out of line. He could always make me smile and always make me sing! I will never think of him without that smile and without a heartfelt laugh. Thank you, Bill, for all you have given to me. With sincere love, Dawny
