Waking up really early to sit in the bathroom and talk to him while he does his routine morning shave.
Sitting at the kitchen table with him and Grandma while they drink their coffee.
When I got hurt he said his "magical' ring would make it all better and there would be no more pain.
Uncle EJ and Grandpa would joke around and pop their false teeth out at me.
Just a few of my favorite moments growing up with Uncle EJ!

Gene was a special person. He was a caring and friendly guy. Always doing for others. He always had a smile and a laugh to share. We became friends when he came to DSS to work and after his retirment we often saw each other at a local diner. I am so glad we kept in touch and happy that I just saw him weeks ago. My family and I are saddened. We will miss our little visits with Gene. I was lucky to have known him.

My wife & I bought our first home from Gene 32 years ago....It was a mobile home in Jo-Nel trailer park in Greenport...We didn't know Gene personally, but we do remember a very nice gentleman that sold us a beautiful first home. He was very patient with us, as it was our first major purchase. And he wished us much happiness in our new live together....I always remembered his kindness...We would like to offer Gene's family & friends our most sincere condolences.... Dave & Gerri Wolfe...

My deepest sympathy to Gene's family. He was a very good friend to my Mom, who passed away 11/2. He came often to visit with her. The community very much enjoyed their bingo games and I know he was a great caller.
