Everett D. "Jing" DuMond, 86, of Grovetown, GA, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Westwood Nursing Facility, Evans, GA. Everett was born on May 23, 1926 in Sidney, NY. He was the son of the late Alfred A. DuMond and Mary (Strangeway) DuMond. Everett attended Sidney Central School. On April 5, 1958, Everett married Barbara Very in Montrose, PA.
Everett, a WWII veteran, served in the United States Army 17th Armored Infantry Division from October 1944 to July 1946 in Germany. For awhile after Jing returned from overseas, he tried a few traditional careers but found that he was most comfortable driving tractor trailer and continued driving until he retired in 2003.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara DuMond; his children: Sandra DuMond, Timothy (Linda) DuMond, Judd (Leslie) DuMond, Alfred (Jane) DuMond, Ronald (Claudette) DuMond and Ira DuMond; as well as 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews and his close K-9 companion, Duke.
Everett was predeceased by his son, Jeff C. DuMond; his parents, Alfred and Mary DuMond; his siblings and spouses: Clarence "Steve" DuMond, Harland and Virginia DuMond, Mildred and Louis Ruling, Cora and Clyde Olds, Hester and Clayton Olds, Harold and Iva DuMond, and Ella Mae DuMond DeMott; his father and mother-in-law, Allen and Stella Very; and his nieces Jean DuMond Oakley and Violet Olds Bishop.
Jing valued and showed pride in his family. He helped to be a foundation and support for the DuMond Reunion which takes place 3 or 4 days every year since 1983. He relished a good discussion about patriotism and politics.
Friends are invited to call from 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street Sidney. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm at the funeral chapel with Rev. Patty Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to any veterans' organization of ones choice or to the USO. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
