We met Red at a craft show in Roxbury NY 25 years ago where he was selling his duck cavings. Our 5 year old daughter was eating a hotdog, entered Red's tent & Red's black lab took the hotdog out of her hand and ate it. Red was upset, scolded the dog and bought our daughter another hot dog. We became good friends and did a lot of other craftshows together. We have some of his carved ducks and perhaps the only white swan that he ever carved, as he hated to carve swans. We'll miss him, but will be reminded of him daily, as his art is displayed prominently in our home. RIP Red Man

From the respect he earned at Sidney & throughout the NYS Public High School circles to the ducks he crafted with patience and precision. From the service he gave to his country to the service he offered as a career to the young men and women at Sidney Central School. From the love he had for his players to the love he had for his family. Fran Redmond was "the legend" to many of us. Perhaps he was not quite as tall as we thought OR as tough as we thought. But in our mind, he was all that and more. I will miss his ALWAYS wanting to know more about me than I tried to know about him. He had a sincere appreciation for the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame which I shall always treasure. He cared about us all and I am grateful for his friendship long after school was done. It was the final piece of other puzzle, understanding the man we all admired. Rest in Peace, Mr. Redmond.

One of the most respected human beings I have ever known. I remember, as a senior in school, I rolled my ankle and missed a game. Prior to being able to get back on the floor for the following game against arch rival WP, I had to pass the Mr. Redmond test to ensure all was well. I'll never forget his careful eyes on my every move. You see....as much as he cared about winning, he cared even more about the well being of each and every one of us kids. It was like we were all one of his own. A wonderful, wonderful man.

To the entire Redmond family, those in Sidney and his extended family of coaches and friends, we share our condolences with each and every one of you. "Red" had impacted so many lives in so many positive ways, mine included. Both Joan and I will be out of the area this weekend, but we are certain all those that attend Red's celebration of life on Saturday will allow us to share with them in prayer.

Sabina and I regret not being able to attend Saturday. Red and his family became important to our family when we moved to Sidney. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Red. He never coached our children, but Red and Bert were second parents to Laura. Our heartfelt sympathy and love go to the family.

My most sincere condolences to Mrs. Redmond and the entire Redmond family. Mr. Redmond was a friend, mentor, and coach about life. The second most influential male role model I've been blessed to have. I won't forget the things you taught me and I hope my actions reflect the respect and gratitude I have for you. A man who knew Fran Redmond and who needs advice can ask himself what Fran would do, and come up with the right answer. Your passing leaves a vacuum devoid of equals but full of lives you positively impacted.Shoot straight my friend.

I was so sorry to hear of Coach's passing. He played an important role in my life from when I was little and attending the Emergency Squad functions where I was his "Riverside Dolly" to my years in high school. I'll never forget the day he came down the hall to the cafeteria study hall and said "In My Office" to me. I wasn't sure what he was upset about but I knew I was in trouble. He proceeded to escort me into the boys locker room to show me a list on the wall of ineligible students for playing sports that week and pointed his finger to my name. The first girl every to make the list due to my French class. I was mortified and so was he. Cheerleading was everything to me and I was not going to be able to cheer unless I improved my grade. I left his office with a "prickling feeling" like I was going to faint. I not only disappointed myself, but I embarrassed Coach. Coach was someone who you thought was untouchable, but he was proud of everyone. He'll be looking down on all of us still helping to mold us. You were the best Coach, and your family the luckiest for having you as a husband and father. My best to Bertha, and to your family. You were a great human being and you served us well.

Bethie Robertson posted a condolence
One afternoon Beth Ballert had played one of her typical stinger hoaxes on a group of us we while we looked at each other stupidly. We were standing in a circle as she pointed her finger at us in glory. I quietly began plotting the best revenge I could think of and finally I courageously and seemingly wittingly announced to a bent over laughing Beth, “Hey Beth, Did you hear the announcement? Mr. Redmond wants you down in his office. The cocky laughing Beth who had just foiled her latest victims ceased her moment of glorified exhilaration and stopped short. “WHAT? she exclaimed as her face went from victory to terror.
She gingerly marched down the hall from the cafeteria to his office, obviously panicked and desperate to escape. We rolled on the floor and pointed with hysteria. As she made her last fatal turn into the destination of doom we high fived one another and scooted off to our classes. I continued laughing even in the middle of class when suddenly Mr. Redmond’s fated voice of doom boomed over the announcements, “Miss Robertson GO TO MY OFFICE. Everyone turned and looked at me knowing I had made the man mad.
I don’t know why but I was doubled over in both fear and laughter. I did not dare go to his office and I was sure hoping my father didn’t hear that announcement. I continued to laugh and shake all the way past Mr. Duke who I am sure was in on the conspiracy. I entered Mr. Redmond’s office, my knees shaking but my face and belly bursting in fits of laughter.
I sat down on the green chair before his desk of authority. He was not laughing but I could not stop. And I was SCARED. “Miss Robertson, he sternly reminded me of his reason for my date with him. “DO NOT use my name in vain. Have you heard of that before? I tried to answer him but the laughter rolled out of me like a ball rolling down a hill.
I sheepishly tried to get the deep bouts of laughter under control but I couldn’t. Finally after staring at me for which seemed like two hours while I attempted to unsuccessfully suppress my fits of belly rolling laughter his face cracked a smile. He shook his head from side to side and with a sly grin on his face said, “Don’t use my name again.’ Go back to class. I was so relieved I had survived my only time in Mr. Redmond’s office due to a “bad deed.
My family had some fun times with the Redmond family. Mr. Redmond leaves a legacy of respect and admiration and he exits following the other greats we have been so blessed with in the Sidney community.

We thought "Coach" would live forever. Actually, considering the positive impact he has had on a great many people, he will. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to thank him. He was tough, fair, had high expections of his students, competitive and was always there when needed. For many he opened a door of opportunity, for a job, to attend college (expecially Cortland State), or whatever was needed. Mrs Redmond, my thoughts are with you and your family.

As I too grew up in Walton, I never played for Fran, but saw more than enough of some of his teams. In later life, living in Sidney at working at "the Mag", I had the pleasure of playing with, and against Fran in softball. We had a lot of fun in our rec league and he always had a witty comment about his opposition. It was all in good fun and he will be sadly missed by a large number of us. Rest in Peace, coach!

Fran Redmond was a giant of a man to all who played football for him and knew him. Beating Walton was always the icing on the season for him. I still remember his Lombardi like words "Men, You know I don't teach dirty football but when that lineman comes through you make sure he knows you were there from Sidney!" Rest in peace Coach!

To the entire Redmond family, I am so sad to hear of Coach Redmond's passing. As I spent all of my life in Sidney, except the last 5 years, I knew Coach, but I didn't play sports, so I didn't know him that way. I remember him as a friend and someone to look up to. Since I live out of the area now, in Florida, I will not be able to attend his service. However, all of you are in my prayers.

Dear Bertha and Family, So sorry to hear of your loss of Fran. I remember when he came to Sidney many years ago when I was still in high school. I had the greatest respect for him and also for you as my gym teacher after Flossie left. I remember going to a bowling tournement with you both out of town. Sandy Johnson and myself(I was Joan Misner then) and you and Flossie-can't remember the other person. We had a great time. I still have the picture that was taken of us. Ater my seven children were grown I did bowl for a few years until my back gave out. Fran was a great asset to Sidney High School and to the community-the last time I saw him was at Cathedral Farm displaying his artistry with the ducks. He will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Coach Redmond set the standards for the suquenango league football. As a football player for Walton in 1957 our greatest achievement was a win over Sidney. Years later in 1978 I was the head football coach at Thousand Islands HS in Clayton NY coach Redmond saw one of our games and sent me a letter congratulating me on our team's success and mentioned both of our Walton New York beginnings. His letter was the greated award I could ever have received. His letter to me is framed and on display in my home in Charleston SC and means more to me than our championship trophy in 1978.

Well i am a sophmore in high scoohl and I did p90x during track season because the coaches would only let the track kids in the weight room. i thought that some of the tapes were really good and enjoyed them but others i couldn't stand doing. i didn't follow the diet, i would just try to eat a little bit healthier. i feel like this summer i have gotten much stronger lifting in the weight room hard 6 days a week than i would have using p90x, but it is still a good workout tape. Hope you enjoy it.
