Melanie Borst

Obituary of Melanie Borst

Melanie Renee Borst, 58, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12th, 2020 at her home on Buckhorn Lake Road in Unadilla, NY with her cousin Christina Townsend by her side. She was born on May 1st, 1962 in Sidney, NY. The daughter of the late Stanley and Mildred (Manderville) Borst. She was a 1980 graduate of Unatego Central School. There she was in marching band as a twirler amongst other things. Later in life Melanie attended Endicott International Beauty School in Johnson City, NY. Here she completed in a satisfactory manner the prescribed course of study in all branches of beauty culture, becoming licensed through the State of NY to practice Cosmetology. She was an avid cat lover and worked at the Broome County Humane Society and former tech assistant and kennel care person at Endless Mountains Vets in Owego, NY. Some knew Melanie as weird and in a dark place. Others knew her as colorful. Most of her family and friends knew her as a talented artist/ designer/ sculptor. She designed many one of a kind fantasy dolls. She could make incense burner fairy houses and other items out of clay and yard scraps. Scraps such as moss, pine cones, twigs, stones and more. She was known all over the world for her sculpting creations. Her creations can be found in Norway and other countries. She also was an avid wood carver. Again, her works of art making it into houses all over the world. Melanie looked forward in life to so much. Her dreams were to be healthy enough to travel to Hawaii and participate in Renaissance fairs all over the United States. She had plans to reconstruct her garage into a studio/ play room. With a must have pool table as she loved playing pool. She also wanted to make a meditation area and so much more. Unfortunately, with her time cut short she could only express her hopes, dreams and intentions to her loved ones that were close to her. Melanie had very special family members and friends. One person she was really close to (David Sweet) she considered her brother. He was also her husband early on in life. Friend Jim Bolden of 20+ years. Her neighbors and back party friends Roland and Sandy Ramp were also important to her. Before Melanie passed, she expressed that nobody should be alone in life or die alone. Nobody should suffer with this crap (cancer). Nobody should take life for granted. Nobody should be greedy or get greedy. Just love and be loved, as that is all she ever wanted. Melanie is survived by a very special Aunt Eleanor M. Snow, aunt Evelyn Manderville and cousin Martin Borst. Many other cousins and her kitties as well. Her kitties can be adopted from the Delaware Humane Society, Sidney, NY if interested. Services for Melanie will be July 4th, 2 p.m. at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, NY with a celebration of life immediately following at the home of Christina and Daryl Townsend, Coventryville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her name can be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main Street, Sidney, NY. 13838.
