Bettye loved to laugh, loved to shop, loved to tell stories, loved to do crafts, and was a very wise, kind person.
We met Bettye in 1980 through a mutual friend. We both loved to do crafts and spent a lot of time talking about what we were working on and what we planned to do from then on. Every Christmas, I look forward to getting out my ornaments which include beautiful handmade fabric Christmas balls that Bettye made for us many years ago.
Bettye's smile - I will never forget. Bettye's laugh - I will never forget. Bettye's desire to make any occasion into a fun one. Bettye always ready with her camera to capture our time together and then she would have double prints made so she could share her photographs.
My favorite memory of Bettye was at a restaurant where we stopped for dinner after a long day of shopping. Bettye ordered a piece of lemon pie for dessert. She put her fork into the pie and could not get it to move - could not cut a piece off nor could she remove the fork. She began giggling and we all began watching her and laughing as well. At one point, she bounced the fork attached to the pie around her plate, and we all laughed so hard - well - I had tears coming down my face and my sides hurt. We laughed all the way home and when we saw Bettye over the years, someone usually remembered the pie incident and we would laugh again.
We will never forget Bettye and will smile through our tears. RIP Bettye.

I remember Bettye from working at Borden's years ago, especially doing the daily mail run & stopping at her desk watching the squirrel she fed peanuts to on the window ledge. We had lots of good times & laughs during coffee break near the copier & candy closet. Going to her home & shooting pool & sitting on milkcans laughing. A very true friend who shall be missed by all those who knew & loved her. I will miss your smile & laugh.

When I think of Bettye, I remember her smile that always made me think she wanted to say something else. We rode the same bus (Morris Ireland was our much-loved driver), and one day an upper class bully was making fun of my little sister. I hit him over the head with my umbrella. Bettye gave me one of her mischievous smiles!
I extend my most sincere sympathies to Bettye's family.
Doreen Day Armstrong, a '59 classmate of Bettye's.

Bettye was a joy to be around. As we were growing up together in Bainbridge I remember her as being quiet but in later years we had so much fun meeting for mini reunions at Gail's camp. She loved to laugh and that's when I got to really know her and what a great person she was. I will miss our times together but know she is at peace and probably having a good laugh right about now.
Love you Bettye,
Joan
