Obituary of Claudia M. Bowen
On Sunday, April 26th, 2020, Claudia M. Bowen, devoted mother, loving sister, and generous friend, passed away at the age of 76.
Claudia was born on September 5th, 1943 in Pittston, PA to Wilton and Margaret Wickes. Claudia, one of eight children, grew up in Masonville and graduated from Sidney High School in 1961. She participated in FFA, Home Economics, and various business classes. In 1963, her superior bowling skills got her selected for the New York State Women's Bowling Association Championship tournament. Claudia worked at various restaurants, hospitals, and nursing homes throughout the Tri-County area.
In July of 1969, Claudia married the late Stewart Bowen of Endicott, NY. She and her husband owned and ran Fusco's Restaurant for over 10 years. Together they began a family, first with the birth of their daughter Heather and then son, Michael. After the sudden death of her husband, in 1979, Claudia began working for New York State Division of Youth -Camp Brace. After twenty-six years of service to the state of New York, she retired to enjoy her time with friends, family, and her children.
Claudia lived a life full of bright colors, beautiful things and an endless amount of love. She believed that more color, more decorations, and more happiness made life worth living. All those who knew her will recall her generous spirit and joyous infectious laugh. Although she faced many hardships in her life, never did these tragedies dampen her resolve to love with her whole heart. Claudia welcomed everyone into her life with kindness, open arms and a delicious meal.
Claudia enjoyed food, football, the Christmas season, trips to the casino and vacations in Florida. She enjoyed these simple pleasures in life but most of all she loved her children. Her children and later granddaughter, provided her with vast amount of happiness and joy. Claudia always gave an excited and animated account of her children's lives and granddaughter's many talents. The love she gave her family was endless.
Claudia is survived by her son and daughter, her son-in-law, her granddaughter, her sister and brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sidney Senior Meals and the Sidney EMS.
