Bunker was a great fan of all Sidney sports especially wrestling. When I came to Sidney to teach and coach wrestling, he would always tell me a story about the wrestling teams in the 60's. He would tell who his favorite wrestlers were and where he sat for every home match and who he sat with. He would tell me the same stories every time and I enjoyed listening to him. Bunker you will be missed by all. My prayers are with the Halbert family.

This is a beautiful story about Mr. Halbert. The words bring back to mind Mr. Halbert's voice and his smile and his demeanor . . . things we have not thought of in a long time and now remember with such joy. Joe remembers how Mr. Halbert enjoyed watching Larry pitch for Sidney Varsity Baseball team, and then later in life he always kept track whether Joe was late for Mass at Sacred Heart~~with a smile and jovial comment, of course! We remember purchasing Angela's drum set from Mr. Halbert. It was also wonderful to read about many things we did not know about Mr. Halbert's life. Thank you for that. Our sincere condolences to you all. Rosemary & Joe

There are no words to express how my Uncle Bunk touched my life for many years. He opened his home and heart to my whole family when we needed it most and when we grew up we all came back to spend holidays, birthdays and sorrowful days, too. The door was always open.
Thank you for all you gave us.
God bless the whole Halbert family.
Life will be lonely without Uncle Bunk.

My sincerest of condolences to Larry, Jeff, Joe, Teresa, and all of the rest of Bunk's extended family, one that has grown a lot over the more than 60 years I knew him. Growing up next door to the Halberts since I was five, Bunk and Helen were the best neighbors ever to have. Bunk was a warm hearted, wonderful man and a blessing to all that knew him. As many have said, he never failed to have a story or two to tell you along with a corny joke that always made you laugh. I don't remember ever seeing him without a smile on his face. I don't get back to Sidney very often anymore, but I will truly miss not being able to stop in and chat with him for a while when I do.

To the Halbert Family - Wow - what a wonderful tribute!! He was an amazing man with a heart of gold. I always loved running into him. The first thing he would ask is how my parents were and he'd always talk to me about my Dad's Letters to the Editor. He loved reading them in the paper and always had a chuckle about one especially! Anyone who had the honor of knowing Bunk was blessed! He will be sadly missed by the Sidney community. Stay strong and know he will always be with you. Sheri Kinsella

My thoughts and prayers go out to Larry, Jeff, Joe and Teresa and the rest of the family. He was a great guy and he always had a joke or a story to tell me when I would visit. I have known him since I was 14yrs old when he first started dating Helen, and I have always loved them both. She was like a sister to me and he a brother. They will always have a special place in my heart. He will be missed at cards. He always loved to play. I'm glad I stopped in and talked to him a couple of weeks ago. He had a heart of gold and I sure will miss him. Rest in Peace, Bunk.

As soon as I told my daughter Brynn that Bunk had passed she immediately knew it was “the guy who teased me at church”. Yep, for a few years, Bunk was taller than she was. He could rarely make that claim based on his lack of height, so he took advantage.
As for the man, or often the little boy inside the man, Mr. Halbert was a joy to be around. Corniest jokes, no one had more. Sidney memories, same. He’s always going to be in a group of “”characters” who personified the small town life here in the 1940-50s. They’re nearly all gone. Missing Bunker is a given. But he gave us one last laugh in that the Lord deemed April Fool’s Day to call him home. Bless his family and know his joy given to others equaled the joy he received.
