Obituary of Michael D. Rice
It is with deepest sorrow we announce that Michael Douglas Rice, age 40, our beloved son, brother, family member and friend passed on February 29, 2020...Leap Day (we are sure he was chuckling about this)...in Syracuse, NY while in the hospital. He was surrounded by his family.
Mike will be missed every day by his parents Dorothy and Douglas Rice, brother Mark (Jennifer) Rice, niece Madalyn Erceg, nephew and best buddy Rowan Rice, many aunts and uncles that he loved very much and cousins that were like best friends.
He is having a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a while: Maternal grandparents, Jean and Edward Lucker, paternal grandparents Laura and Ralph Rice, his uncle, Alan Lucker and Mike's dog Buddy.
Mike was born on February 17, 1980 at the Sidney Hospital. His life was a fight right from the start and what a fighter he was!! He traveled far and wide, Washington DC to New York City to Pittsburgh PA to receive medical care. He rarely complained...he just fought on with courage and quiet dignity. Because of the way he met his challenges head on, he was an inspiration to many people, including the doctors. He was a walking miracle.
Mike graduated with the Class of 98 from Bainbridge Guilford and also went to Morrisville and BCC each for a year.
Spending time with his brother, friends and cousins, video gaming, computer, and watching movies were a few of the ways he spent his time. One of Mike's greatest joys was spending time with his nephew Rowan. They loved using the computer, playing video games, and taking weekend trips with him. One of their traditions was decorating Mike's Christmas tree each year. They also enjoyed everything Sasquatch.
Friends may call Friday, March 6, 2020 from 6-8 PM at CH Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel. Mike had a special way with animals. A donation to Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St. Sidney, NY 13838 would be appreciated. Mike was always kind...please consider a random act of kindness in his name. It would help make this world a better a better place.
