Grandma Joad was an incredible Grandmother. I remember walking into the farm house on the holidays. The smell of Grandpa’s pipe was in the first room to the left and the living room with some kind of fireplace or wood burning stove. By the time I’d walk into the kitchen there was always lots of life and chatter as all of my Grandma’s 5 adult children were “Home for the Holidays” and my favorite part was the brought their kids! Grandma had made her home such a wonderful place to celebrate that as a child I got to play with my cousins and see them at least once a year. The food was always delicious and Gram had a peaceful, loving and gentle way about her where she was never the center of attention. She let others shine. She was always a phone call away if you needed her and always had good advice. Amazing how she raised 5 children, ran an insurance agency and a farm. Cheers Gram to an incredible life and I love you for all you are and thank you for being my Grandma and my friend. Wish I lived closer to you as I grew up. Oxoxo Alway and Forever, Suzi

Doug, Leslie, Susan, and Mary,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. I have many fond memories both on State Street and at your home in Otego. I remember playing with our "baby dolls" at your State Street home. I thought how lucky you and Kathy were, Leslie, to have "real" diapers and baby bottles for your Dollies. I remember picking up the crab apples in your driveway and eating them. In Otego, I remember that your Mom had a "pasteurizer" on top of the refrigerator. I was so "picky," I wouldn't drink the milk! I remember playing in the hayloft, riding your horse, and having asthma attacks, too! Who knew I had asthma way back in the late '50s? I caught up with your Mom about 10 years ago, but then lost track of her. I do hope that her last days on Earth were filled with wonderful memories and love. Another Angel has earned her wings. Fly high, Joan. Say "Hi" to my Mom and Dad!
