Obituary of Richard Alan MacPherson

Richard A. MacPherson Bainbridge, NY Richard A. MacPherson, 72, of Bainbridge, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. Rick was born on December 26, 1946 in Bainbridge, son of the late Fenton H. and Elma (Cary) McPherson. He enlisted in the US Army and served for four years until his honorable discharge on December 1, 1973. Shortly after, he began a 38 year career in the automotive industry. He started as a mechanic at Demeree's, eventually retiring as a new car detailer with Scoville-Meno in 2010. His passion for cars wasn't limited to his profession; he loved working on cars for fun, as well as attending classic car shows. On August 21, 1982, he was married to Marlea (Mia) Benjamin, a union that recently celebrated it's 37th anniversary. In his younger years, Rick enjoyed deer and small game hunting. Some of his hobbies included reading, the New York Giants, Syracuse University athletics and doing word searches, keeping a pen on hand just in case. He liked working outside, mowing and puttering. Every summer, he spent a great deal of time at the family camp on Highland Lake in Warren Center, PA. He had a soft spot for dogs and enjoyed the occasional gin and tonic. A man of routine, he could often be found visiting around town or having coffee at Bob's Diner. He will be missed by his wife, Mia MacPherson; his two sons: Ricky MacPherson and Jason MacPherson; sister, Barbara Humphrey; brother, Nelson and Michelle MacPherson; sister-in-law, Candy and Joel Chace; brother-in-law, Dave and Nicole Benjamin; as well as many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Rick was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Fenton McPherson, sister and brother-in-law Janice and Socrates Nellis, and brother-in-law, Floyd Humphrey. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be directed to the Bainbridge Fire Department, or to a veteran's charity of choice.
