Obituary of Pearl E. Meehan
Please share a memory of Pearl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pearl Meehan, Sidney, NY
Pearl Meehan, widow of Edward Meehan of Sidney passed away August 3, 2019 (exactly three weeks shy of 100th birthday) at A.O. Fox Nursing Home as a result of metastatic bladder cancer.
Pearl was born and raised in Delhi, daughter of Hugo and Gertrude Gesell. She was a graduate of Delaware Academy and what was then Delhi Agricultural and Technical School, where she studied business practices and testing of dairy products. For most of her working life, she was an employee of Scintilla (now Amphenol), from which she retired in 1982.
Motherhood was paramount to Pearl and she blessed her only child with two life-long gifts: a great love for reading and a great compassion for animals. She was a faithful follower of the Syracuse NCAA basketball teams and really loved baseball season, when she could quote a myriad of statistics about the Eastern Division of the American League, ever aware of the standings. On the last night of her life she watched the Yankees vs Red Sox game with her daughter.
Pearl's life philosophy was to follow the Golden Rule, which she felt basically, covered all situations.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Robert Lerch of Glastonbury, CT, her beloved cat, Prissy and two grand dogs, Neely and Liffey. She was predeceased by a sister, Ellen Chase, Delhi.
In her later years, Pearl was able to continue living in her own home because of some very special, wonderful people: Pat and George Grays, Alana and Dennis Bailey, Ronita and Perky Holbert and her nephew Ken McNaughton.
Much gratitude and many thank are extended to the Sidney EMS as well as to the Doctors and staff at Tri-town Emergency Clinic, who were so competent, gracious, kind and thoughtful.
In keeping with Pearl's wishes there will be no calling hours or services. Inurnment will be next to her husband, Edward in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.
As she was a devoted animal lover all of her life, anyone wishing to make a memorial donation is asked to please send it to the Delaware Valley Humane Society PO Box 182 Sidney, NY 13838.
